Another loss of focus, 'no solver' Samsung 2G 18 hits and 1 run, 'Choi Sung-young 4 straight wins + Ahn Jung-yeol 2 long balls' NC upset win series

 The NC Dinos rode a strong pitching performance from Choi Sung-young and three long balls to a second consecutive winning series.

The Dinos won the eighth game of the season against Samsung 7-1 at Lions Park in Daegu on Monday to complete a two-game sweep of the series after losing the first game. With the win, NC evened its record against Samsung at 4-4 this season.

The difference in the batting order was the difference in the game.

A day after failing to capitalize on their chances with nine hits and two walks.

They took the lead in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back singles by Kim Ji-chan and Pirela put runners on first and third with nobody out, and Kim Dong-yeop lifted the first pitch for a sacrifice fly to bring in the third run.

But that was it. The previous day's lack of offense continued in the second inning. Until the fifth inning, they had runners on base in every inning on seven hits and four walks, but couldn't capitalize.

In the meantime, the NC bats came through with three long balls at crucial moments.

In the top of the second inning, with runners on first and second after two walks, Ahn Jung-yeol doubled down the left field line and scored on an error by the left fielder to make it 2-1.

After a leadoff walk to Kwon Hee-dong to make it 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Jason Martin drew a full count against Hwang Bong-jae and lifted a 143-kilometer fastball over the right field fence for a two-run home run. It was his third home run of the season to make it 4-1.

Two batters later in the sixth, Ahn Jung-yeol hit his second solo home run of the season to left field to make it 5-1. NC drove in a run in the top of the seventh when Seo Ho-cheol led off with a double and Kwon Hee-dong followed with a single.

NC starter Choi Sung-young threw 84 pitches in five innings, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts to extend his win streak to four games without a loss this season.

Ahn Joong-yeol, who wore the starting mask for the first time in five games since the Jamsil LG Electronics game on Feb. 2, led the way with a strong offensive performance. He minimized runs with a steady lead and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth inning by throwing out the speedy Kim Ji-chan at second base. No. 2 Ho-Cheol Seo was the table-setter with his fifth three-hit game of the season. Martin picked up where he left off the day before, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a multi-hit game.

Samsung had runners on first and second with no outs in the seventh inning, but back-to-back super catches by NC shortstop Kim Han-byul and third baseman Park Seok-min prevented them from rallying. Samsung was unable to find a solution on July 7 and 8, scoring just one run on 18 hits.

Alcantara pitched eight innings of two-hit ball with no walks and 10 strikeouts against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Monday.

The team won 2-1, giving Alcantara his seventh win of the season.

Most importantly, the team proved to be strong against Hanwha. Before this game, he had two wins and a 0.60 ERA in two games, and after this game, he won three games and lowered his ERA to 0.39. However, they were unable to get the extra runs they needed to win. In the fifth inning, SSG bullpen pitchers Lee Roon and Choi Min-jun failed to score a single run against Moon Seung-won. Lee and Choi were shut out without a hit.

In particular, they were unable to capitalize on a comeback in the ninth inning for the third straight day and suffered a one-run sweep. They had runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth, but Choi Jung-yong grounded out to shortstop and Park Chan-ho flied out to right field. 

In the first game on the 6th, trailing 1-2, they had a chance to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth against SSG closer Seo Jin-yong, but Ryu Ji-hyuk grounded out to center field on the first pitch.  

Trailing 7-9 in the bottom of the ninth, SSG had the bases loaded but could only score one run on a sacrifice fly by Ko Jong-wook. With one out, Kim Kyu-sung struck out swinging and Shin Bum-soo grounded out to second base.

In three games, the team has left 26 base runners on base. It can be said that the lack of concentration of the batting lineup led to the three-game losing streak. 메이저사이트

Moreover, they gave up easy runs on wild pitches and fielding errors. In the second inning, Anderson scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the seventh inning, an error by Park Chan-ho and a wild pitch by Choi Ji-min were the key factors in giving up the winning run after Kim Min-sik's tying home run.

Overall, these are red flags. All eyes will be on the weekend's three-game series in Jamsil against Doosan to see if they can rebound.

The game between the two teams, which had been a four-hour, 27-minute bloodbath the day before, ultimately came down to a starting battle. Kiwoom starter Choi Won-tae pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and two walks. He only needed 94 pitches. On the other hand, LG starter Kim Yoon-sik gave up seven runs on 12 hits in five innings of work.

For Kiwoom, who had been struggling with batting silence, the outburst was a welcome respite from the drought. Kim Hye-sung and Russell each had four hits, while Kim Jun-wan, Lee Jung-hoo, Song Sung-moon and Lee Hyung-jong each had multi-hit games, marking the team's second multi-hit game of the season and the most hits of the year (previously 18 against Hanwha on May 31). Yoon Jeong-hyun in the eighth and Kim Sun-ki in the ninth were also clean.

SSG Landers Yi-roon pitched two scoreless innings with no walks and three strikeouts in the fifth inning against the KIA Tigers in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju on Aug. 8. He earned his second win of the season. Thanks to his performance, SSG won the game 5-4 to complete the series sweep.

When Lee took the mound, SSG was down 3-4 against KIA. That's because starter Jong-hoon Park struggled mightily, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.2 innings while striking out four. However, Lee was able to overwhelm the KIA bats with a mix of pitches, including a heavy fastball that topped out at 149km/h, a slider, and a changeup.

In the fifth inning, Lee got things started by getting leadoff hitter Socrates Brito to hit a foul fly to third base. He went on to strike out veteran hitter Choi Hyung-woo in a six-pitch battle. He then struck out the next batter, Kim Sun-bin, on a grounder to second base to end the inning with no outs.

In the sixth inning, Lee continued his dominant pitching. He struck out the leadoff batter, Ko Jong-wook, on a wild pitch, and struck out Lee Woo-sung on five fastballs. Shin battled hard against Shin Bum-soo. After a 10-pitch battle, he got a grounder to first base to end the inning with no outs.

While Lee held on without giving up any more runs, the bats came alive. In the seventh inning, leadoff hitter Kim Min-sik hit a solo home run to tie the game, and Choi Jung hit a sacrifice fly to put runners on first and third. Choi Min-jun (two scoreless innings, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts) and Moon Seung-won (one scoreless inning, one hit, one walk) also pitched well in relief of Lee to preserve the win.

After the game, Lee said, "It feels good to know that I helped the team win, rather than getting an individual victory. Unlike holds and saves, a winning pitcher's record cannot be achieved without the help of our seniors. I'd like to thank them for their support," he said.

Irene, who hasn't had much luck lately.
